Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad
The Tonopah & Tidewater Railroad was a going concern and helped realize the village of Shoshone, first established as a whistle-and-water stop along the track. The T&T provided support to Death Valley’s mining activity, its associated boomtowns, and early tourism. Its rails were pulled up during World War II to support the war effort – and if you look around you may see a house or two built from its ties! While the little railroad never made it to either Tonopah or the Tidewater, it still blazed a trail across this landscape and into our hearts.
