Shoshone Museum - Mammoth

Shoshone Museum

Perched on the edge of Death Valley, the Shoshone Museum sits at the heart of a true desert oasis along the Amargosa River. Surrounded by wild marshlands, sweeping mountain ranges and expansive desert skies, the natural and historical forces that shaped our region are still very much present!

From the brave and eccentric early pioneers, to mega fauna and world class geology, we have something for everyone – and yes, we have rocks! Lots and lots of rocks! Walk through time in a geological sense, and find out why colleges and universities all over the United States send their geology students here to study! Uncover the “Tale of Two Elephants,” mammoth and mastodon bones that were discovered right here in Shoshone. Learn how the pioneer women “rocked” this area with their grit, determination, and survival skills. Discover this and so much more at the Shoshone Museum!

Our little museum has so much to offer the inquisitive history buff and novice alike. No trip to Death Valley is complete without a stop at our museum and visitor center in Shoshone, California!
