Native Americans
The Timbisha Shoshone of Death Valley and the Southern Paiute made this area home for countless generations! In more modern times, families like the Weeds and Rosses called Shoshone home – the Weed homestead can still be seen near the Shoshone Pup Fish Pond. Our collection features gorgeous hand-woven baskets, hand tools, photographs and more. Pauline Esteves, a crusading tribal elder, takes a star turn in our Death Valley Women exhibit, and we feature books written by Corbin Harney, a Shoshone tribal elder, in our gift shop.
